The former RB Leipzig man's picture has since been removed from the 'professional squad' section of Werder's website, with his name and shirt number the only thing remaining.

According to , Bremen thought they were rid of Keita in September after accepting an offer from Turkish side Hatayspor, with the club covering a portion of the player's wages to ensure no financial loss to him. However, Keita opted against leaving despite giving his approval to the transfer and passing a medical. The situation infuriated Bremen, with Keita having 'no chance' of returning to the squad and being forced to train alone.

Keita came off the bench in Liverpool's 2022 Champions League final against Real Madrid but the 29-year-old has played just 402 league minutes since then, which amounts to less than five full matches. With a contract until 2026, Keita is believed to be costing Bremen almost €7,000 a day.
