Leeds United could welcome back Junior Firpo against Manchester United this weekend, LeedsLive report.
The Lowdown: Left-back troubles
Firpo, who Kevin Campbell described as ‘strong’ in the summer, has missed the last three Premier League fixtures after going off injured against West Ham.
Stuart Dallas has filled in at left-back with the Spaniard sidelined, however, the Northern Irishman went off with injured after just nine minutes against Everton on the weekend.
Leo Hjelde came on for Dallas at Goodison Park and capped off a terrible afternoon for the Whites by hobbling off late on with his own problem. However, Marcelo Bielsa could now welcome back Firpo in what would be a timely injury boost.
The Latest: Firpo update
LeedsLive journalist Joe Donnohue shared a story on Wednesday regarding Firpo and the chances of a return on Sunday.
He said that it is hoped Firpo could be back for the visit of Ralf Rangnick’s side and even suggested that Bielsa could give the left-back the chance to prove his fitness in Friday’s Under-23 fixture against Brighton.
The Verdict: Massive boost
Bielsa likes to ease players back from injury, however, should Dallas be missing on Sunday, he may decide to bring Firpo straight back into the side.
Another possibility is moving Pascal Struijk to left-back and Robin Koch back into defence from a holding midfield role, which could mean Adam Forshaw is brought back into the side.
Options appear to be limited due to multiple injury issues and a small squad, but if Firpo is available, it would give Bielsa at least two possibilities in what could be a crucial week, which is a massive boost considering they ended last week’s clash at Everton with zero left-backs.
