Current Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has expressed his desire to lead a national team at a World Cup before concluding his coaching career.

Guardiola, contracted with Manchester City until 2025, has left the door open for a future stint with a national side. The 53-year-old tactician has previously been linked with Brazil, England, and the United States, but the Spaniard chose to stay away from the international arena. However, Guardiola revealed that he aspires to helm a national team at prestigious international events such as the World Cup, European Championship, or Copa America, as he considers it to be a significant milestone in his coaching journey.

When Guardiola was asked, if he had anything left to achieve, he stated: "A national team. I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would like that."

When pressed if he had a preferred national team in his mind, he added: "I don't know who would want me! To work for a national team they have to want you, just like a club."

With his unparalleled tactical acumen and proven track record of success, Guardiola's prospective involvement in international football will definitely make it an interesting move.

However, the manager insisted that he has not set himself a goal of winning the World Cup, Euros, or Copa America.

"I never thought about it like that [with the goal to win a World Cup]," he said.

"When I started in this I never thought about winning a league title or winning the Champions League. No. I thought, I have a job? OK.

"I would like to have the experience of living through a World Cup, or a Euro, or a Copa América, or whatever it is. I would like that. I don't know when that would be if that is five, 10, 15 years from now but I would like to have the experience of being a manager in a World Cup."
