As reported by The Scottish Sun, Rangers are hoping to do business with Benfica this summer, ready to make moves for two players at the Portuguese giants.
What’s the story?
As the transfer rumour mill goes into overdrive in Scotland, Rangers are the team dominating the headlines as papers try to get a sense of what players Pedro Caixinha is looking to bring to the club this summer.
Two of the latest players to be linked with a move to Rangers are Benfica pair Daniel Candeias and Dalcio. That’s according to The Scottish Sun anyway, who say that Caixinha is focusing on the Portuguese and Mexican markets and is hoping to wrap up deals for the duo.
Daniel Candeias, a winger rated at £1.2m by Transfermerkt, has played all over Europe including for Porto in the UEFA Champions League and would likely represent an upgrade on current options available at Ibrox.
The paper say that a loan deal for Dalcio is close to being finalised.
The right strategy?
These two aren’t the first foreign names to be linked with a move to Rangers this week and the strategy certainly appears to be looking beyond British shores for talent that can make a difference at Ibrox.
That’s a shift from the policy of Mark Warburton, who recruited heavily from the English lower leagues and from the fringes of the English Premier League.
On the face of it, it appears to be the way to go. There’s little value left in England as TV money soars and Caixinha obviously knows where to get value in markets he knows well.
Will it pay off?
