Eze was expected to be included in Palace's squad for the club's first-ever match in Europe but boss Oliver Glasner has confirmed his absence. With his Arsenal medical expected in the next 48 hours, he has been whipped out of the squad.

The match against Fredrikstad was meant to be his last game for Palace before joining Tottenham but, in high drama on Wednesday, the Gunners swooped in and hijacked the move following an injury to Kai Havertz. Spurs fans are incandescent that their biggest rivals have humiliated them when for weeks they were the only team chasing the England international.

Eze is heading back to his boyhood club and Arsenal fans are already rolling out the red carpet. The Hornsey Road Tunnel, a stone's throw from the Emirates, has been decorated with a mural of Eze after he guaranteed himself cult hero status before he's even kicked a ball for the club.
