Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag recently raised eyebrows when he commented that the club was in conversation with the two over a contract renewal despite them not being regular starters for the club. However, now reports that while the club is in discussion with the two French nationals, they are still "debating" internally over the renewals.

"We are talking with Rapha Varane and Anthony Martial and we have triggered the options on Lindelof, Hannibal and Wan-Bissaka," Ten Hag told a press conference on Thursday. Asked to clarify, the Dutchman added "that is an internal discussion between the club and the player."

Both Martial and Varane have not had the best of campaigns under the Dutchman as they have gone in and out of his starting lineup due to injury concerns. Varane lost his manager's confidence before being overtaken by Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in the pecking order.
